Dr. (Prof.) N. K. Jha Elected Vice President of the Indian Commerce Association

A Historic Achievement for Bihar

Dr. (Prof.) N. K. Jha, senior faculty member of the Department of Applied Economics and Commerce, Patna University, has been elected Vice President of the Indian Commerce Association (ICA) at the national level. The election was held during the 76th All India Commerce Conference, organised from 19 to 21 December at Garden City University, Bengaluru, Karnataka.

This achievement is considered historic, as Dr. Jha represents the North-Eastern Zone of the ICA, the largest zone in the country, comprising nearly half of India’s states. In the 75-year history of the Indian Commerce Association, this is the first time that a representative from this zone has secured a position on the Central Panel. Dr. Jha will hold the office for a three-year term.

Dr. (Prof.) Jha has created yet another record by securing a resounding victory for the second consecutive time at the national level, surpassing his own previous achievement. Earlier, he was elected Joint Secretary of the ICA during the 73rd All India Commerce Conference held in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. He is the first individual in the history of the ICA to win national-level elections consecutively with such a large margin.

Out of a total of 713 votes, Dr. Jha received 457 votes from across the country, reflecting the deep confidence reposed in him by academicians and researchers nationwide. Over the years, he has successfully served Patna University in several key academic and administrative positions, making significant contributions to academic excellence, institutional development, and quality education.

Expressing his gratitude after the victory, Dr. Jha said, “The responsibility entrusted to me this time is far greater than before. I will make every possible effort to live up to this responsibility with sincerity, integrity, and dedication.”

Dr. Jha’s election has sparked a wave of joy and pride across Bihar and beyond. He has received warm congratulations from scholars, educators, and academic institutions from all corners of the country.
